Overview
Attacks (aka Ataxx) is a two-player game where the player possessing the most pieces at the end of the game wins. You try to win by cloning your pieces and capturing your opponent's pieces.
Board
The standard Attacks board size is 7x7. Igfip supports a range of smaller and larger board sizes as well as rectangular boards and obstructed spaces.
Unlike most other games, where the use of obstructed spaces is a non-standard variation, Attacks is actually intended to be played with obstructed spaces. You can use the obstruction editor before starting a game to create your own board configurations.
Tournament play requires that the arrangement of obstructions be symmetrical. But you can arrange them however you like. You will find the game to be far more interesting with obstructions. Each board configuration requires different tactics to achieve victory.
Pieces
Each player starts with two pieces. This number changes throughout the game as a result of capturing and cloning.
Rules
- Black moves first.
- A piece may move to any space within a two space radius of its position, jumping over intervening pieces and obstructions if necessary.
- If a piece moves one space, it is cloned. The original piece remains in its original location and a duplicate piece is placed at the destination.
- If a piece moves two spaces, it vacates its original location and is placed at the destination.
- When a piece completes its move, all opposing pieces adjacent to the move destination are captured and immediately replaced by friendly pieces.
- If a player still has pieces on the board and cannot make a move, play passes to the other player.
- The game ends when neither player can make a move or one player loses all of his pieces. The player with the most pieces remaining wins. If both players possess the same number of pieces, the result is a draw.

Movement
Select a piece by clicking on it. Move a selected piece by clicking on the desired destination. If after selecting a piece, but before completing its turn, you decide to move a different piece, cancel the move by selecting another piece.
Alternatively, drag a piece from its existing position to its destination by placing the mouse cursor on top of the piece and holding the mouse button down while moving it. Cancel a move by dragging the piece back to its original location before releasing the mouse button.
Cloning
Cloning occurs when you move a piece one space. The only difference from regular movement is that instead of moving the original piece, a duplicate piece is created at the destination and the original piece remains in place.
Redraw Board
If you make an adjustment to your Web browser—such as changing your font size—while playing, the game pieces may no longer align correctly with the board. To restore proper alignment, select the Redraw command from the Attacks menu.©2011 Savarese Software Research Corporation
